Characteristics of the study:
The aim of the BSc studies of biotechnology is to prepare the graduates for the usage of wide knowledge of biology and chemistry as well as of fundamentals of technology in their professional life and their public life. During the studies a student acquires the knowledge of specialized disciplines that contribute to biotechnology: biodiversity of life, microbiology, cell biology, plant anatomy, histology, embryology and developmental biology, biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics with genetic engineering, plant cytogenetics, tissue cultures, plant and animal physiology, fundamentals of bioprocess engineering, chemical analytics, entrepreneurship in biotechnology and rules of work safety in biotechnology. Modules at choice are also offered enabling the students to individualize their development according to their interests.

Additional important information for candidates
Study programme is realized in the ECTS system which enables students to take part in international exchange, and studying abroad. Especially capable students are offered the studying according to the individual course of education, under the supervision of a tutor appointed by the Dean. They can also broaden their knowledge by participating in student research clubs. The course of study assume the apprenticeship in institutions and production plants. The study programme has been accepted by the Polish Accreditation Committee.
For candidates with new maturity diplomas
The qualification procedure covers the competition of maturity diplomas — the results of the written part of the maturity exam in two of the below-specified subjects will be taken into consideration:
biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics and astronomy.
From amongst these subjects two must be selected (A and B) with the highest percentage score from the maturity exam (*).
In case when there is a score only from one of the above-stated subjects on the maturity exam, the candidate will obtain O points from the other subject.

Manner of calculating the points:
W = 0.5 (A* + B*)
where:
W – candidate's final result;
A – result from subject A;
B – result from subject B;

The higher score obtained by the candidate will be taken into consideration.
The candidate is obliged to submit the relevant Medical certificate regarding lack of health counterindications for the commencement of studies in the given programme.
For candidates with old maturity diplomas:
The competition of maturity diplomas covers the following subjects taken during the maturity exam:
It may be the same subject from both parts.
The sum of grades (Sum) is calculated from the selected subjects. If a subject specified in the programme was passed in a written mode, the obtained score is increased by half a point.
The sum may total at 12.5.
The point range which constitutes the basis of qualification is calculated according to the following formula:
L = 8 x Sum (Max. 100 points)
The candidate is obliged to submit the relevant Medical certificate regarding lack of health counterindications for the commencement of studies in the given programme.
The candidate who obtained the International Baccalaureate diploma, issued by the International Baccalaureat Organization based in Geneva, are subject to the same admission rules as holders of “new” Polish maturity exam. The results on the diploma of International Baccalaureate are calculated according to the following indicators:

In case the candidate does not submit the International Baccalaureate diploma, for the sake of qualification, the candidate is obliged to submit the certificate about the IB result issued by the appropriate institution and present the IB diploma immediately after its reception.
NOTE: If the admissions criteria for the programme assume additional entrance exams for the holders of “new” Polish maturity exams, the following factors are concerned during the qualification: result from IB diploma calculated according to the scale above and the results of the additional entrance exam.
The candidate who obtained the European Baccalaureate diploma, issued by European Schools in accordance to the Luxemburg Convention of 21 June 1994 about the European School status, are subject to the same admission rules as holders of “new” Polish maturity exam. The results on the diploma of European Baccalaureate are treated as results of the extended “new” Polish maturity exams and are calculated according to the following indicators:

In case the candidate does not submit the European Baccalaureate diploma, for the sake of qualification, the candidate is obliged to submit the certificate about the EB result issued by the appropriate institution and present the EB diploma immediately after its reception.
NOTE: If the admissions criteria for the programme assume additional entrance exams for the holders of “new” Polish maturity exams, the following factors are concerned during the qualification: result from EB diploma calculated according to the scale above and the results of the additional entrance exam.
The candidate who has obtained the secondary school graduation certificate (or another document) issued outside Poland may apply for studies. The document has to entitle the holder to undertaking Bachelor studies in the country in which the document was issued.
For candidates which are Polish citizens or apply for studies on the same rules as Polish citizens, the admission procedures defined in the programme’s description apply.
Foreign candidates applying for studies on other basis (tuition-paying, tuition-free, scholarships) are accepted for studies under regulations other than noted in the admission criteria.
If programme’s admission criteria require mark in Polish language :
The candidates applying as Polish citizens or on the same rules as Polish, which finished secondary education outside Poland, will have the mark of that country’s language taken into account instead of Polish language mark.
Note: If programme’s admission criteria under “new” Polish maturity exam include additional entrance exams the results of BOTH entrance exam and secondary school graduation certificate are considered.
