Characteristics of the programme and offered majors:

The research subject of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology is located both in the area social ideas and practices. Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology deals with description, history, and theory of culture and combines two different perspectives: 1. humanistic, focusing both on documenting or reconstructing the temporal and spatial diversity of cultures, and on model explanations and interpretations of the meanings of culture; 2. social, concerned with interactional, communicative, and institutional dimensions of cultural phenomena. Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology includes analyses of enculturation and acculturation processes and their social, historical, economic, and ideological contexts. The curriculum stresses formation of social competencies and ability to operate in a multicultural, multireligious, and multilingual environment.

Full-time 2nd cycle studies in Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology provide further insight into and a broader understanding of ethnology and anthropology. Addressed issues include theoretical considerations of anthropological aspects of culture (among others: Anthropological Theories 1-4), as well as knowledge of practical applications of ethnology and cultural anthropology in careers in, among others, education, journalism, business, the creative sector (Applied Anthropology 1-3).

The educational content includes both the problems of ethnological interpretation of socio-cultural phenomena and anthropology of contemporary culture as well as issues of cultural ecology and applied anthropology. Students acquire in-depth knowledge of the main methodological positions of contemporary anthropology of culture and its practical applications in planning their own career paths. The studies place emphasis on students becoming familiar with the most important issues and problems concerning human entanglement in cultural patterns, social interactions, and natural conditions. The aim of the programme is to develop in students the ability to consider the abovementioned aspects using a wide range of scientific and research traditions and the most important methodological proposals. In terms of theory, the studies allow students to get familiar with model explanations and interpretations of the meanings of culture. The theoretical knowledge will also be directly applicable in practice. In the process of education, great emphasis will be placed on contact with various institutions in which the graduates' competencies are necessary.

Educational outcomes specified for the Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology programme refer directly to scientific research conducted within the field of culture and religion studies. Scientific activity involves research, description, and analysis of social and cultural phenomena in various regions of the world. Qualitative research is conducted under the guidance of teaching and research staff, allowing students to acquire knowledge of civilisation complexes and cultural circles in terms of their specific ethnic, environmental, economic, and political characteristics. The research is carried out in accordance with scientific methods and strategies adopted in the implementation of social research, taking into account ethical principles and norms. At the same time, this knowledge is analysed and subjected to description in accordance with contemporary ethnological and anthropological concepts, based on the latest literature on the subject. The results of the conducted research are incorporated into the development of detailed concepts for obligatory, elective, and diploma modules. Linking scientific research with the curriculum has a particular impact on the development of topics for master's theses, as well as their accurate implementation within diploma seminars.
