Characteristics of the study:

This Master’s degree curriculum is focused on preparation of diploma thesis based on a specialization-related research project. The student, led by a supervisor, learns how to assess and possibly solve detailed problem concerning condition, risks and protection of the environment.

Master’s research project is consistent with scientific interest of a department chosen by the student in a frame of specialisation. Under supervisor tuition the student building competence in asking scientific questions and finding solutions of various problems linked with biotechnology of plants and environmental biotechnology and actively participates in the development of science. Moreover he/she conducts highly profiled specialisation workshops and seminars during the first and the second year of the study.

Students acquire necessary skills at modeling of natural processes and the use of statistical methods in natural sciences. The methods are used during the planning and realization of their own MSc project, conforming the rules of bioethics and environmental ethics.

Monitoring and Environment Management

A set of optional modules is offered for students of this specialization to improve knowledge and skills in the use of living organisms and their systems to assess the condition of the environment.

The graduates of this specialization possess the up-to date knowledge and skills of the natural environment functions and has got the skills to apply the field and laboratory methods, to operate with apparatuses for environmental monitoring and to apply legal regulations concerning environmental protection.


The graduates of this specialization possess the up-to-date knowledge and skills of geoecological determinants of environmental protection and are able to apply the field and laboratory methods, to operate with apparatuses for collecting and processing of environmental data as well as to cope with social problems concerning the realization of actions for environmental protection.

The specialization broadens knowledge and skills on preparation of the geological documentation and methods used in studies on the abiotic environment at different levels of organization. Students are prepared to solve environmental problems on a regional level. The offered modules broaden knowledge on different aspects of abiotic environment and its protection including geographic information systems used in environmental studies, methods used in landscape research,  threats and protection of the aquatic environment and air pollution and allergens.

Physico-chemical Methods of Environmental Protection

The graduates of this specialization possess the up-to-date knowledge and skills of the application of physical and chemical laboratory methods and are able to operate with various specialized  equipment  for the analyses of threats resulting from the usage of materials (waste) and processes of anthropogenic origin taking place in natural environment. The  alumnus is trained to make decisions on the way of waste management and utilization.

Modern Instrumental Methods in Environmental Protection

The graduates of this specialisation are very well prepared, both theoretically and practically, for the application of various research methods and modern laboratory equipment in various environmental issues.

The training program of the specialization is consistent with the current policy of the state concerning environmental protection management. The skills gained in the course of studies qualifies the graduates to be employed at institutions operating on specialized research equipment, environmental analytical and diagnostic laboratories, R&D facilities.

Professional prospects:

Within the frames of this education curriculum the issues that practically prepare the specialists in environmental protection are realized. They cover, among other, the questions of waste management, assessment of environmental impact, regional planning, or applying for funds for environmental protection, projects or measures.

Moreover, the graduates of MSc studies are also prepared to continue their education during the PhD studies in the similar scientific disciplines.

Additional important information for candidates:

Within the field of study a constant cooperation with the employees representing the profile connected with broadly understood environmental protection, including local and national authorities, scientific institutes and non-governmental organizations is realized. Moreover, in the frames of modern teaching offer the study enables the students to benefit from the internationalization and mobility of students in the frames of LPP Erasmus programme. The field curriculum has been accepted by the Polish Accreditation Committee.

Admissions criteria

The candidates with a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Engineer’s degree diploma in the field of biology, biotechnology, environmental protection or related disciplines may apply for admission. In the case of candidates from other degree diplomas (related disciplines), the decisions on qualification to admission process are taken by the admission committee based on the analysis of obtained learning outcomes and curriculum of completed studies.

Admission is based on the assessment of required documents submitted by the candidate (upon prior registration in Online Application System).

In the case when the number of candidates exceeds the limit of places, admission is decided by means of the ranking list, created on the basis of the average study grade. In the case of candidates with the same final diploma grade, the following admission criteria are further applied respectively: average study grade, and then diploma thesis grade.

A study candidate is obliged to submit a relevant medical certificate confirming the lack of medical contraindications to take up studies in this degree programme.
