The aim of the specialization is to prepare future Americanists and Canadianists for professional work by delivering them knowledge of diplomatic processes, international law, intercultural and internatioanal relations combined with native-like fluency in English.

The programme also supports developing practical diplomatic skills and intercultural expertise which may be facilitated at all levels of intercultural relations. Graduates will be prepared to work as specialists in public administration units and as members of diplomatic corps. They skills they posess will make them valuable employees of territorial administration, local governments, or liaison managers in international companies. Such graduate will be an asset to all organizations seeking experts who have attained a near-native command of English and developed diplomatic skills neccessary in the context of business relations, political negotiations and intercultural mediation.

Admissions criteria

The following candidates may apply for admission:

  • candidates who obtained the Bachelor’s degree diploma in English Studies or other language studies with major in English, as well as
  • candidates who completed 1st cycle studies, 2nd cycle studies, or long-cycle studies, and have one of the following documents confirming the advanced level of knowledge of English language:
  • British Council IELTS certificate (with a minimum total score of 7.0),
  • TOEFL iBT certificate (with a minimum total score of 100),
  • TOEFL BPT certificate (with a minimum total score of 600),
  • Cambridge CAE certificate (at the minimum B level),
  • Cambridge CPE certificate (at the minimum C level),
  • PTE Academic certificate (with a minimum total score of 70),
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum grade in the exam in English selected as Language A or B - 5).

Additional requirements:

Candidates applying for admission to the above-mentioned major should have knowledge, skills, and social competencies provided for in the curricula of 1st cycle studies in English Studies or other language studies with a major in English.

Candidates who are not graduates of English Studies or other language studies with a major in English, in the case of being admitted to 2nd cycle studies, are obliged to make up for the curriculum differences resulting from the curriculum of 1st cycle studies in English Studies. The scope of curriculum differences, individually for every student, together with the schedule and method of making up, will be determined by the Dean of the Faculty.

Admission process:

Admission is competitive and based on diploma grades.

An additional admission criterion, in the situation when many candidates obtained the same grade on the diploma, and the limit of places does not allow for admission of all candidates, will be the average study grade.

Candidates qualified for admission to studies, together with the required documents, shall submit a certificate confirming the grade average from studies, issued by the authorities of the university where the candidate completed their studies.

Launching particular student groups as part of the above-mentioned major at English Studies depends on the required number of applications depending on the relevant provisions.
