Description

Offered majors: 

  • Applied French and English with Translation and Interpreting with Language for Business Purposes

Characteristics of the programme:

French and English as Applied Languages: Business French and English and Translation Studies is complementary Master’s degree programme addressed to people who want to become highly qualified in the areas of linguistics and translation. The studies combine the improvement of French and English with furthering the knowledge and developing practical skills concerning Translation Studies. Particular emphasis is put on preparing the student for work which requires the knowledge of foreign language for business purposes. Education in this major is complemented by a diploma module, during which the students prepare a MA thesis devoted to a chosen field of linguistics or literary studies. What is more, the studies enable students to improve their second Romance language, as well as using modern technologies in professional environment.

• institutions and organisations providing tourist services;

• culture and research institutions;

• work in the field of diplomacy;

Admissions criteria

Candidate applying for admission has knowledge, skills, and social competencies necessary to take up education at 2nd cycle studies in this degree programme and major, and in particular

  • qualifications obtained as a result of completing 1st cycle studies in language studies with a major in applied French and English or
  • qualifications obtained as a result of completing 1st cycle studies in language studies with a major in Romance Studies or French and knowledge of English at C1/C2 level or
  • qualifications obtained as a result of completing 1st cycle studies in language studies with a major in English Studies or English and knowledge of French at C1/C2 level,
  • qualifications obtained as a result of completing different 1st cycle studies than language studies and knowledge of English and French at C1/C2 level.

The candidates who have a degree diploma in other programmes (majors) than language studies are additionally obliged to attend an interview (in Polish) concerning the presentation of research plans related to the future MA thesis of the candidate in linguistics or literary studies.

The maximum number of points to obtain in the interview is: 30. To achieve a positive result of the interview, the candidate must obtain at least 15 points.

The candidates who successfully pass the interview, i.e. obtain at least 15 points, will be admitted to studies based on the average of the final grade in the diploma and positive exam grades in English and French.

For candidates with a diploma in language studies with a major in Applied French and English – admission is decided by the place on the ranking list based on the degree diploma grades.

For candidates with a diploma in language studies with a major in Romance Studies or French language – admission is decided by the place on the ranking list created on the basis of the average of the final grade on the diploma and positive exam grade in English.

For candidates with a diploma in language studies with a major in English Studies or English language – admission is decided by the place on the ranking list created on the basis of the average of the final grade on the diploma and positive exam grade in French.

For candidates with a degree diploma in other degree programmes (majors) than language studies – admission is decided by the place on the ranking list created on the basis of the average of the final grade on the diploma and positive exam grades in English and French.
