Characteristics of the programme:

International Polish Studies are devoted to a broadly-understood Polish culture (language, literature, art, general culture) from the perspective of international relations and inter-cultural relations. The curriculum involves preparation of students to work in institutions of international nature.

  • Cultural Consultancy – within the framework of this major, the students will discover the principles of consulting and promotion in the area of international cooperation and exchange, whereby culture in the subject of transfer and where, under international cooperation, its knowledge is an element necessary in order for the communication (meetings, consultations, negotiations) to be effective and successful.
  • Cultural Journalism – within the framework of this major, the students discover the ins and outs of the profession of a journalist and the possibilities of using the obtained knowledge for the transmission of information concerning Polish culture in the international space. It also teaches the methods of transfers in situations in which Polish culture is a target segment.
  • Translation Studies – within the framework of this major, the students obtain knowledge regarding the functioning of language varieties. The students learn translation strategies with special consideration of the strategy of specialist translation, especially in the scope of scientific discourse and language varieties actively used in international cooperation (foreign language for business purposes, language of diplomacy and protocol).

Professional prospects (graduate profile):

The graduates can find employment as a travel journalist, reporter (press, books) travel blogger, foreign correspondent, cultural advisor, project and team leader, diplomat, organiser of events, PR representative, advertising and promotion specialist, trip organiser

Admissions criteria

Candidate has the necessary qualifications and competencies to continue education at 2nd cycle studies in this degree programme, confirmed with a degree diploma.

The candidates with a degree diploma of 1st cycle studies, 2nd cycle studies, or long-cycle studies, particularly in the degree programmes in humanities and social sciences, may apply for admission.

Admission is based on the assessment of required documents submitted by the candidate (upon prior registration in Online Application System).

The decision on qualification for admission process is taken by the admission committee based on the analysis of obtained learning outcomes and curriculum of completed studies.

In the case when the number of candidates exceeds the limit of places, admission is decided by means of the ranking list, created on the basis of the grade from the graduation degree diploma.

A foreign candidate applying for admission should know Polish language at the level which enables them to actively participate in university classes, as confirmed with a certificate or exam conducted by the School of Polish Language and Culture at the University of Silesia.
