Description

Characteristics of the degree programme and offered majors:

Designed as addressed to a narrow, several-member group of interested students, a proposal of studies that constitutes an end result of cooperation of historians from the Czech Republic (Ostrawa), Poland (Katowice), and Slovakia (Bańska Bystrzyca). Four-semester studies from amongst which in the first and fourth semester students stay at the Institute of History of the University of Silesia whereas during the second and third semester in the Departments of History of the Universities of Bańska Bystrzyca and Ostrawa (under the supervision of their lecturers).

The participants of the programme will obtain conceptual knowledge (i.e. in the scope of Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia history bases, selected issues from individual fields such as history of economy, culture and science and history of the army, elements of history, historiography and scientific workshop of a historian, especially Central Europe researcher). They will be equipped in necessary skills, i.e. interpretation of sources and monuments, familiarisation with the selected examples of cultural achievements of the southern neighbours of Poland. Apart from historical education, the students will have a possibility to learn the basis of Czech and Slovak (in the course of the first semester of studies), and subsequently, they will be able to enhance their knowledge during stays in these countries.

Professional prospects (graduate profile):

The graduates can find employment in various types of institutions as historians-specialists; in their work, they are able to encompass the historical traditions and achievements of Central Europe, understanding the specificity of this area and prepared (also language-wise) to work in the scope of promoting history.

Admissions criteria

Studies implemented together with Univerzita Mateja Bela v Banskej Bystrici i Ostravska univerzita v Ostrave.

Candidate has the necessary qualifications and competencies to continue education at 2nd cycle studies in this degree programme, confirmed with a degree diploma.

Admission process includes competitive admission based on Master’s degree or long-cycle diploma grades — the diploma grade is taken into account.
Admission is decided by means of the ranking list, created on the basis of the final result of the studies, in line with the following rules:

  • completing studies in history — result multiplied x 3;
  • completing studies in a different degree programme in the field of humanities — result multiplied x 2;
  • completing studies in the field of other sciences — result multiplied x 1.
