Description

Characteristics of the degree programme and the majors

 

Studies in the degree programme of Materials Engineering are conducted in the following majors:

  • materials science,
  • biomaterials,
  • functional materials,
  • quality control of materials and products.

The student receives a thorough knowledge of the sciences of metal, ceramic, polymer and composite engineering materials, the selection of engineering materials for various applications and manufacturing technologies, materials processing, and methods of shaping and studying the structure of engineering materials in various products.

The 2nd cycle studies last 3 semesters and end with the conferral of the Master’s degree.

Career prospects (profile of the graduate)

Graduates have the ability to use technical information and are prepared for work supporting material engineering design. They also have knowledge of research methodology and management of human teams in industrial environments, small and medium-sized enterprises related to the production and processing of engineering materials.

Graduates are prepared to work in industrial enterprises producing, processing or using engineering materials, in small and medium-sized enterprises, including enterprises trading in engineering materials and apparatus for their testing, in research institutions and research and development centres, in institutions involved in counselling and dissemination of knowledge in the field of materials engineering and materials technologies as well as computer-aided technology, in design and consulting offices as well as institutions creating and operating computer IT systems used in materials engineering.

Based on the interdisciplinary knowledge in the field of team management in research and industrial activities, operation of IT systems and computer support systems for engineering works, selection of materials and manufacturing technologies, the graduate is prepared to make creative initiatives and decisions regarding materials engineering and technologies and independently conduct business activity with particular emphasis on the area on the border of materials engineering, medicine and veterinary medicine.

Admissions criteria

The candidates with a Master’s or Engineer’s degree diploma in natural sciences or engineering and technology may apply for admission to 2nd cycle studies.

Admission is based on the analysis of documents, i.e. diploma supplement, or extract from the student record book or other documents, to confirm the candidate’s qualifications to take up these studies.

In the case when the number of candidates exceeds the limit of places, admission is decided by means of the ranking list, created on the basis of the degree diploma grade.

In the case of candidates with the same final diploma grade, the following admission criteria are further applied respectively: average study grade, and then diploma thesis grade.

A study candidate is obliged to submit a relevant medical certificate confirming the lack of medical contraindications to take up studies in this degree programme.
