Description

Characteristics of the degree programme and the majors

The 2nd cycle studies in the degree programme of Mechatronics include interdisciplinary content e.g., materials and material technologies, strength of materials, electronic systems, automation of technological processes, basics of machine construction, construction and programming of robots, numerical methods, production, service and personnel management. The graduate is prepared to participate in interdisciplinary teams solving problems with the construction, manufacture, sale, operation, servicing and diagnosis of mechatronic systems and machines and devices in which they occur.

Mechatronic design

This major is a combination of mechanical, electrical, computer engineering, surface elements of machine and device systems, automation and robotics. Graduates of this major possess the creative ability to design and develop technological processes for the production of parts of mechatronic devices and systems, as well as the ability to diagnose, replace and regulate a specific mechanical or electrical element. Graduates of the major have a possibility to find employment in institutions involved in the design, manufacture, diagnostics, replacement and regulation of mechatronic systems, in the electromechanical, machine, automotive and household appliances industries.

Micromechatronic systems

In the field of subjects taught as part of the major, students gain knowledge and skills in the field of functional ceramic materials for micromechatronics, design in micromechatronics, modelling of micromechatronic systems and the use of microcontrollers and controllers. Subjects and content of education realized within the major are aimed at the contemporary needs of the labour market with particular emphasis on topics related to obtaining, designing and modelling materials used in mechatronic systems. Graduates of Mechatronics with the major in Micromechatronic Systems have the creative ability to design and develop technological processes for the production of parts of mechatronic devices and systems. They can use technical information to diagnose, replace and regulate mechanical and electrical components or industrial automation and robotics components. Knowledge of the above issues allows them to effectively manage human teams in industrial environments, in small and medium-sized enterprises related to the design, manufacture, diagnostics, replacement and regulation of mechatronic systems e.g. in the electromechanical, machine, automotive and household appliance industries.

Career prospects (profile of the graduate)

The graduate of Mechatronics can find employment in plants with an automated robotic production cycle as a constructor, designer, or engineer, in plants providing services in the field of design, service and diagnostics as the head of the service and repair department, or a service technician, as a CNC operator and programmer, in the electromechanical industry manufacturing mechatronic systems, automotive, household appliances, aviation, machine tool industries and other facilities operating and servicing mechatronic systems and machines and devices in which they are used. The graduate can start work in scientific and research institutions as well as training and research and development centres. The graduate has the opportunity to study at third-cycle studies.

Other additional information for candidates

The studies are intended for people with a professional title of at least Engineer’s/Bachelor’s degree.

Admissions criteria

The candidates with a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Engineer’s degree diploma in natural sciences or engineering and technology may apply for admission to 2nd cycle studies.

Admission is based on the analysis of documents, i.e. diploma supplement, or extract from the student record book or other documents, to confirm the candidate’s qualifications to take up these studies.

In the case when the number of candidates exceeds the limit of places, admission is decided by means of the ranking list, created on the basis of the degree diploma grade.

In the case of candidates with the same final diploma grade, the following admission criteria (ranking) are further applied respectively: average study grade, and then diploma thesis grade.
