Overview of the programme and majors:

This degree programme is addressed to music school graduates and candidates whose practical skills and theoretical knowledge match those gained in the first degree music school but who do not have the school diploma. The programme covers several fields. The first field concerns the problems of music theory and music education, while the second one is connected with the development of practical skills (e.g., playing the piano, playing an instrument of choice, voice emission, conducting, eurhythmics, choir, orchestra). The degree programme also includes modules that broaden the general knowledge of humanities, as well as foreign languages. The programme provides students with the possibility to gain both the general knowledge of music and the specialised knowledge from various practical areas of music, as well as the possibility to develop skills which will help them become creative musicians and pass their knowledge and skills in this field.

The programme assumes and supports students’ active participation in the process of problem-based learning. In the whole course of study, students are confronted with the need to solve problems in a creative way, to develop their creativity and to use their theoretical knowledge in practice. The degree programme also offers majors, and one of them is chosen by students in the third semester. The offered majors are the following:

  • Eurhythmics in Child Education
  • Instrumental and Vocal Bands in Popular Music

Majoring in Eurhythmics in Child Education extends students’ qualifications in the area of conducting classes based on movement, dancing, local folklore, and other systems and methods of music education used in education through music and movement.

Majoring in Instrumental and Vocal Bands in Popular Music extends students’ qualifications in the area of selected music performance practices. The graduate gains additional skills in the area of playing an instrument of choice, singing, improvisation, accompaniment, and team play. Students can choose between classical or popular music as their specialization.

Career prospects:

  • conducting music animation in various educational and cultural institutions;
  • organizing and providing the technical support for festivals and music events;
  • running music bands;
  • conducting artistic activities of various types, including entertainment activities;
  • working in institutions offering classes in eurhythmics.

Others, important information for candidates:

The studies in the degree programme involve the first part of the modules of the so-called teacher training course, but the full qualifications to become a teacher will be gained after the second cycle of studies in the same programme.
