The master's degree study (4 semesters) in the area of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is intended for students who wish to develop their geographical knowledge based on working in the GIS environment. The curriculum includes general and introductory courses offering both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Specialized courses include: cartography and geodesy, geoinformation, satellite navigation, web and mobile GIS, satellite and aerial remote sensing, services in the area of unmanned aerial vehicles, terrestrial laser scanning, database management systems, GIS programming and modelling as well as courses covering quantitative and qualitative analyses and applications of GIS in environmental studies and spatial planning. Every student is required to submit a master's degree thesis.

Studies in the area of GIS prepare the graduate for employment in local and central  administration, spatial planning and landscape architecture, environmental protection units, crisis management centres,  business environment companies, geodesy and cartographic enterprises and research institutions.

Admissions criteria

Studies in English

The candidates with a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Engineer’s degree diploma in the field of geography or related disciplines may apply for admission.

In the case of candidates from other degree diplomas (related disciplines) than geography, the decision on qualification to admission process is taken by the admission committee based on the analysis of obtained learning outcomes and curriculum of completed studies.

The candidates are expected to have knowledge, skills and social competencies in the field of earth sciences acquired in the learning process at the completed studies.

At the stage of admission process, candidates are obliged to submit a document confirming their knowledge of English language at least at B2 level; then, they will be admitted to studies based on the average study grade, and in the case of candidates with the same final diploma grade, the following admission criteria are further applied respectively: average study grade, and then diploma thesis grade.

The candidates who do not have a relevant document confirming their knowledge of English language are obliged to have an interview to check the level of knowledge of English language. A positive result of the interview (evaluated with a scale of grades from 2 (fail, negative grade) to 5 (very good) qualifies the candidate for further admission process. The candidates who present a document confirming the knowledge of English at least at B2 level are released from the interview.

Note: Candidates are obliged to upload to their account in Online Application System scanned documents containing information about:

  • curriculum (diploma supplement from EU countries or its equivalent from other countries),
  • average study grade, as well as diploma thesis and diploma exam grades

and document confirming the knowledge of English.

The limit of places is 10.

A study candidate is obliged to submit a relevant medical certificate confirming the lack of medical contraindications to take up studies in this degree programme.
