The main aim of the programme is to develop a Master’s degree graduate prepared to conduct independent operations in the field of video games and virtual reality designing. With the knowledge and skills desired in the labour market the graduate will get the possibility to work in the rapidly expanding interactive entertainment and video game market, as well as in advertising agencies and cultural institutions. Graduate’s broad competence will grant him a range of possibilities in his future professional activity.

The syllabus of the specialization Sound in Games focuses on practice and prepares the graduate to work as a sound engineer in the area of video game production. The specialization Sound in Games is addressed to students interested in creating music and shaping soundscapes. The programme prepares specialists in the area of composing and arranging, digital recording methods, music processing, voice recording and processing, MIDI devices and programs, as well as sound postproduction in video games. The programme offers also theoretical courses, providing knowledge in theory and history of music and its connections with other media. The graduate will be able to make use of gained experience on the post of a sound producer in video games.

The market sector is characterized by the constantly increasing labour demand for the qualified specialists in the area of preproduction, production and postproduction of the interactive entertainment. Broad competences achieved during studies will provide the student with a range of possibilities in his future career.

Admissions criteria

Admission requirements:

The candidate applying for studies has gathered a knowledge, skills and social competence necessary to undertake MA studies on the programme, especially:

  • Musical skills such as playing an instrument or singing, music arrangements or production,
  • General knowledge of music and sound in video games, movies, media and multimedia.
  • Knowledge of English (B2 level at least).

Quallification procedure:

I: Together with the required documents the candidate submits the audio-video file on CD or DVD in standardized format (MP4, WMV, AVI, 3GP, 3G2, M4V, MOV, etc.) confirming his musical activity – playing an instrument, singing, arrangement or production of music or movie. Recording duration should be 3-8 minutes.

Assessment: 0 to 10 points (4 or more to pass).

II: Interview, including presentation and review of the audio-video file related to music, which was submitted as documentation.

Assessment: 1 to 20 points (7 or more to pass).

Not reaching the pass requirements disqualifies the candidate from the diploma contest.

The candidate is also required to submit the medical certificate confirming no contradictions to undertaking studies on the programme in the Dean’s Office in the Institute of Arts.

The acceptance for studies is based on the ranking list prepared after both stages of qualification process.

Note: If former stage of candidate's education was not conducted in English, the candidate is required to submit a certificate of fluency in English on B2 level at least.
