Characteristics of the study: 

The aim of the BSc studies is to prepare the graduates to use wide biological knowledge and to deepen the knowledge by themselves, and apply in their professional activity. The student acquire the knowledge of the structure, function and development of organisms, molecular biology and fundamentals of biotechnology, as well as environmental biology (idea of sustainable development and ethics in environmental protection). This cognizance is linked with the knowledge gained during the courses of mathematics, physics as well as general and organic chemistry. Apart from the obligatory courses, which compose a main scaffold of the curriculum, versatile facultative courses are offered, enabling individual profiling of the educational path of the students according to their interests and preferences. Apart from various courses on biology, the modules related with  biotechnology and environmental protection are also offered.

After the 2nd year of the study the students are referred to the chosen departments/institutes where they prepare their BSc thesis.

Professional prospects:

Graduates can be employed in scientific institutions and production plants, analytical, control and diagnostic laboratories, museum natural departments, health care institutions, pharmaceutical and food industry, in plant growing and animal husbandry, in the environmental protection and economy institutions and agencies, in the custom offices (due to the convention about international market of wild animals and plants), in the offices of environmental protection of local governments. They are also prepared to continue their education on the Master’s degree programme in Biology and related fields of study.

Additional important information for candidates

Study programme, according to the assumptions of National Qualification Framework, is realized in the ECTS system which enables students to take part in international Exchange, study abroad and, as the result, look for a job abroad. Students can acquire the authorization for becoming teachers within the frames of educational programme offered additionally 

Admissions criteria for candidates with "new" Polish maturity exam (issued after 2005)

Kwalifikacja obejmuje konkurs świadectw dojrzałości — brane są pod uwagę wyniki części pisemnej egzaminu maturalnego ze wskazanych poniżej przedmiotów matematyczno-przyrodniczych:

  • Na kierunki BIOLOGIA I BIOTECHNOLOGIA4 − przedmioty: biologia, chemia matematyka, fizyka (fizyka z astronomią);
  • Na kierunek OCHRONA ŚRODOWISKA5 – przedmiotów: biologia, chemia, matematyka, fizyka (fizyka z astronomią), geografia.

Spośród tych przedmiotów wybierane są dwa (A oraz B) o najwyższym procentowym wyniku egzaminu maturalnego (*).

W przypadku, gdy na świadectwie maturalnym, widnieje wynik tylko z jednego przedmiotu matematyczno-przyrodniczego, to z drugiego przedmiotu kandydat otrzymuje 0 punktów.

Sposób przeliczania punktów:

W – wynik końcowy kandydata;

A – wynik z przedmiotu A;

)* — wynik z poziomu rozszerzonego mnożony x 1.

Uwzględnia się wynik korzystniejszy dla kandydata.

Kandydat na studia, zobowiązany jest złożyć odpowiednie Zaświadczenie lekarskie o braku przeciwwskazań zdrowotnych do podjęcia studiów na tym kierunku.

Admissions criteria for candidates with "old" Polish maturity exam (issued before 2005)

Konkurs świadectw dojrzałości obejmuje następujące przedmioty zdawane na egzaminie dojrzałości:

  • Z części pisemnej: jeden z przedmiotów matematyczno-przyrodniczych: biologia, chemia, matematyka, fizyka (+ geografia dla kierunku OCHRONA ŚRODOWISKA) lub język obcy nowożytny;
  • Z części ustnej: jeden z przedmiotów matematyczno-przyrodniczych: biologia, chemia, matematyka, fizyka (+ geografia dla kierunku OCHRONA ŚRODOWISKA).

Z obu części może to być ten sam przedmiot.

Z wybranych przedmiotów obliczana jest suma ocen (Suma). Jeśli w trybie pisemnym zdawany był przedmiot matematyczno-przyrodniczy, wskazany dla kierunku, uzyskaną ocenę podwyższa się o pół punktu.

Suma może wynieść maksymalnie 12,5.

Punktację będącą podstawą kwalifikacji wylicza się według wzoru:

L = 8 x Suma                         (Maks. 100 pkt.)

Kandydat na studia, zobowiązany jest złożyć odpowiednie Zaświadczenie lekarskie o braku przeciwwskazań zdrowotnych do podjęcia studiów na tym kierunku.

International Baccalaureate

The candidate who obtained the International Baccalaureate diploma, issued by the International Baccalaureat Organization based in Geneva, are subject to the same admission rules as holders of “new” Polish maturity exam. The results on the diploma of International Baccalaureate are calculated according to the following indicators:

In case the candidate does not submit the International Baccalaureate diploma, for the sake of qualification, the candidate is obliged to submit the certificate about the IB result issued by the appropriate institution and present the IB diploma immediately after its reception.

NOTE: If the admissions criteria for the programme assume additional entrance exams for the holders of “new” Polish maturity exams, the following factors are concerned during the qualification: result from IB diploma calculated according to the scale above and the results of the additional entrance exam.

European Baccalaureate

The candidate who obtained the European Baccalaureate diploma, issued by European Schools in accordance to the Luxemburg Convention of 21 June 1994 about the European School status, are subject to the same admission rules as holders of “new” Polish maturity exam. The results on the diploma of European Baccalaureate are treated as results of the extended “new” Polish maturity exams and are calculated according to the following indicators:

Secondary education certificate, or equivalent, obtained outside of Poland

The candidate who has obtained the secondary school graduation certificate (or another document) issued outside Poland may apply for studies. The document has to entitle the holder to undertaking Bachelor studies in the country in which the document was issued.

For candidates which are Polish citizens or apply for studies on the same rules as Polish citizens, the admission procedures defined in the programme’s description apply.

Foreign candidates applying for studies on other basis (tuition-paying, tuition-free, scholarships) are accepted for studies under regulations other than noted in the admission criteria. 
 

If programme’s admission criteria require mark in Polish language :
The candidates applying as Polish citizens or on the same rules as Polish, which finished secondary education outside Poland, will have the mark of that country’s language taken into account instead of Polish language mark.

Note: If programme’s admission criteria under “new” Polish maturity exam include additional entrance exams the results of BOTH entrance exam and secondary school graduation certificate are considered.
